EEG Biofeedback for
Attention Deficit Disorder
-ADD/ADHD
What is EEG Biofeedback or Neurofeedback Training?
|
The word 'biofeedback' comes from 'bio' which means 'life' and 'feedback' which
means 'returning to the source.' Biofeedback describes experiences and feelings
that we all sense every day. While some habitual body reactions are good for
our health, others, like tension, stress and pain are not. We can change those
harmful habits.
In this form of treatment for attention deficit hyperactivity disorder --
ADD/ADHD-- the child learns to pay attention to his own brain wave activity,
and then can learn to change and control the brainwave activity. The child is
given immediate feedback on just what his/her brain's activity is like at any
given moment with the use of high-speed computers, which provide both
auditory and visual feedback.
Children can learn to use biofeedback to help them feel and fucntion better.
Biofeedback often uses a computer and comfortable sensors on the skin.
Each child is an individual and skills varies from person to person. It
may take several weeks for some children, while other may take longer.
On average, forty one-hour sessions tends to be the most beneficial.
Learning new skills takes time and practice. Skills become useful only if
you practice them daily!
